Mulan

The story of a young girl, Mulan, who is always eager to please her family, but seems destined to fail in everything she does.

When her father is summoned to join the Chinese army, Mulan realizes he is too old and frail to survive in battle, so disguises herself as a man, Ping, and takes his place.

Helped by her tiny dragon protector, Mushu, her courage and ingenuity impress Captain Shang, and she helps to repel the invading Huns. But Captain Shang discovers she is a woman when she is wounded, and says she is a traitor, and abandons her.

When she sees that the Huns are heading towards the Imperial Palace, Mulan races there and defeats the Hun general, Shan-Yu, saving the Emperor in the process. This brings the honor upon Mulan and her family that she has always longed for, and she also wins the heart of Captain Shang.

Members of the creative team visited China, where they spent three weeks taking photographs and making sketches. It was the first of Disney's animated features to have been primarily produced at Walt Disney Feature Animations Florida. Animators used a computer program called "Atilla" to make the sequence which features 2000 Huns on horseback. The spots on Shang's horse's neck and rump are shaped like Mickey Mouse.
