Fun Facts
Based On The Story "Tarzan Of The Apes," By Edgar Rice Burroughs
The world premiere was held at Hollywood's El Capitan Theater on June 12, 1999.
Members of the creative team visited the animal reserves in Kenya, the mountain gorillas in Uganda and the Impenetrable Forest in Bwindi, in March 1996.
The character of Tarzan was designed by animator Glen Keane who took his inspiration from his teenage son who loved skateboarding and watching extreme sports.
Although in this film Clayton is the villain, in the book , it is Tarzan's birth name, John Clayton, Earl of Greystoke.
Tarzan is said to be the second most filmed subject in Hollywood, second only to Dracula.
It won an Academy Award in 1999 for Best Song, "You'll Be In My Heart," Phil Collins. The song also won a Golden Globe in the same year.

Terk: Are you kidding... What are you talking about?
Tantor: I mean, think about it. He enjoys a peanut, I enjoy a peanut...
Terk: He looks nothing like you!
Jane Porter: I was saved! I was saved by a flying wild man in a loincloth.
