Disney’s Design a Tee Presented by Hanes is now open in Downtown Disney Marketplace, next to the Art of Disney Store. Customers can use the touch-screen kiosks to choose from hundreds of different Disney art designs, and add text to create their own personalized t-shirts.

Coming in 2009

Here are some things to look forward to at DLRP in 2009-

  • To celebrate Mickey’s 80th birthday in 2009, the 15th Anniversary celebrations will be replaced by “Mickey’s Magical Party” from March 2009.
  • “Stars ‘n’ Cars Event” is a revamped version of Disney’s Stars and Motor Cars Parade from Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Expected to be more along the lines of the old “Good Morning Walt Disney Studios” cavalcade than a parade, it’s expected that cars will stop in three separate areas (Backlot, Toon Studio, and Hollywood Boulevard) for character meet and greets. Happening several times a day it’s due to premiere in April 2009.
  • “Playhouse Disney: Live on Stage!” will be located next door to “Stitch Live!” at the Studios. Pre-schoolers will love seeing Mickey, Pooh and Handy Manny on stage in this fun show similar to that now playing at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Dept 56 to close

The Dept 56 store at Downtown Disney is to close after Christmas, following its parent company The Lenox Group going bankrupt earlier this year.
