Hi there, I am Mr Brit and I write a very unique style of Orlando travel guide that is a ‘must have’ tool for any Brit planning a holiday (as Brits call it) to the most fun city on Earth – Orlando. The title of the guide is the Mr Brits Guide To Orlando. Although the guide is aimed at the British traveller, the guide has been sold around the world from Australia to Mexico because it is the perfect tool for any visitor to Orlando and its theme parks.
I am very grateful to MagicalKingdoms.com for inviting me to write an article for this great website and what a time to write my first piece. Almost every family in every country has one thing on their mind at the moment and it’s the Credit Crunch. With this in mind I will give you a few of my money saving tips from my guide and also a few of my standard planning tips from the guide as well.
If you booked your forthcoming trip last year when all was well and your pockets were full of cash but now you are struggling a little and wondering where all of the theme park ticket money is going to come from, create a holiday (vacation) planner. I supply a holiday planner in the guide but you can create your own like this image quite easily. Write on each day what you would like to do and remember to insert plenty of ‘rest days’ because you cannot visit the theme parks every day of your trip, you would need another holiday when you returned home.
No trip to Orlando is complete without a visit to Seaworld, Islands Of Adventure and Universal Studios so slot these visits into your planner along with a couple of shopping days and then study how many times you are really going to want to visit Disney during your trip. As we all know, Disney’s are the most expensive theme park tickets to buy but you can still have a brilliant time by visiting Disney on just one or two days. The first time I visited Orlando, I bought an Orlando Flexticket and only visited one Disney theme park – Magic Kingdom. This holiday was the best holiday that we had ever had at that time so to save a small fortune, buy a Flexticket and only visit Disney once or twice. Orlando is much more than just Disney.
Fill up at a Ponderosa before you visit the theme parks – you will save a fortune! These restaurants are spread around Orlando and there is one on I-Drive, one near Disney and another in Kissimmee. An all you can eat Breakfast buffet costs just $3.99 for an adult and one child eats free with a full paying adult so a final bill could be as little as $10 – $15 for a family of 4 but if you were planning to eat in the theme parks, you can double or triple this amount.
If you have a large breakfast before you visit the parks, you may not feel hungry again for a good 7 or 8 hours and by that time you could be ready to leave the theme park anyway. Savings like this may not sound ‘that great’ – $20 here or $30 there but if you budget properly and be really careful where you are eating, you could easily save $500 in one trip on food alone.
Spread your clothes – Recently a survey showed that in 2006 British Airways had lost 23 suitcases for every 1000 passengers that travelled on their flights. This is a shocking figure as a 747 can carry between 416 to 524 passengers per flight so this equates to around 12 cases getting lost per flight. We have travelled with friends to Orlando recently and one of the party did not receive their cases when we landed in Orlando, the cases turned up 3 days later. As this is more common than you would expect, it is good practice to spread your clothes and other important items throughout your luggage. Don’t put all of Mums things in one case and all of Dads things in another case, put a few pairs of trousers in one case and a few pairs in another because if Dads suitcase takes an unexpected trip to New York, Dad might end up having to wear Mums skirts for a few days.

Take a picture of your car park sign eg “Jaws 352” or “C5” because after a few trips to parks, you will forget what section you have left your car in and some car parks are the size of small towns in Orlando. They are usually named after a character from the movies or a plain old letter and number combination. If you forget to take a picture and you think you are in the right area of the car park, hold your key up in the air and press the lock button and if you are close to your car, it will beep the horn every time you press it.
Check out Mr Brits Guide To Orlando Google Map to get to know Orlando a little bit better before you travel. I have created a map that includes all of the Orlando ‘places of interest’ that you need to know about whilst you are planning this trip of a lifetime. The map can be found here - www.mrbrit.co.uk/orlando_map.htm and full instructions and features can be found in the guide but if you do not have a copy of my guide, you are free to use the map to help you plan this amazing holiday.
