Ten Summer Tips for Disneyland
May 19th, 2009 . by adminSummer is just around the corner and many of you may be dreaming of soaking up the sun in Southern California. Read these 10 “insider” tips, you can make the most of a summer vacation at the Disneyland Resort.
Park Hop
With Disneyland Park and Disney’s California Adventure Park located just steps from each other, a Park Hopper souvenir ticket is the perfect way for you to save time. This ticket will allow you to go back and forth between Theme Parks as often as you like, so you’ll be sure to experience all of the parades, shows and attractions at both Parks. And if one Theme Park is particularly busy, the other is only a few steps away!
Save Time in Line
Disney’s FASTPASS® Service (included with Theme Park admission) distributes timesaving passes that allow you to enjoy some of the most popular attractions with little or no wait. Guests also can save time by using “single rider” lines at selected attractions. The wait time for most attractions is shorter early in the morning, at night and during parade performances. Guests visiting Disneyland Park should be sure to check the information board (located near Plaza Pavilion) for the most up-to-date attraction wait times.
Extended Park Hours
Disneyland Park and Disney’s California Adventure Park both are open extended hours through the summer, giving you more time to enjoy the magic. Extended hours also give you the chance to experience the magic of “Summer Nightastic!” Guests should check the “Entertainment Times Guide,” which is available at the entrance to each Theme Park, for exact operating times on the day of their visit.
Plan Dining Ahead
Whether it’s breakfast with Minnie Mouse and friends or a meal fit for a princess, some of the most memorable Disney experiences can be enjoyed in one of the Resort’s themed restaurants. Reserve priority seating in advance by calling (714) 781-DINE (714-781-3463). You can save even more time by planning to dine during off-peak hours (i.e., early breakfast, late lunch or an early/late dinner).
Know Before You Go
Guests can save time by knowing which children in their party are able to visit specific attractions according to height requirements. Check guide maps, Guest Relations locations or click here for this information before you start visiting the attractions.
Keep Cool Indoors
When the temperature rises, you can visit one of the many indoor attractions to stay cool and maximize your time in both Theme Parks. You may want to consider attractions like Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Haunted Mansion, “it’s a small world,” Soarin’ Over California, Disney Animation or The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™.
Find Characters Fast
There’s no need for you to guess! Theme Park guide maps show the exact times and locations where you can meet their favorite Disney Characters. Some restaurants also offer Disney Character Dining, which is perfect for more one-on-one time with your favorite mouse, duck or dog! And be sure to carry an autograph book so you can collect each Character’s unique signature.
Relax
Remember: vacations should be restful, not stressful! With so much to see and do at the Disneyland Resort, you will want to take time to enjoy it all. By adding time for a swim at one of the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort, shopping at the Downtown Disney® District or a massage at the Mandara Spa, you will feel less rushed to “see it all” in one day and have a better, more relaxed vacation to enjoy.
Take the Train
Are you looking for a way to get off your feet and still get around? Hop aboard one of Walt Disney’s personal favorites - the Disneyland Railroad. Departing from Town Square, and with stops at New Orleans Square, Mickey’s Toontown, and Tomorrowland, this scenic journey is a great way for you to save your feet and side-step a busy day.
Shop BEFORE You Drop
Avoid the heat and the lines by shopping early in the afternoon (2 - 4 p.m.) when most other Guests are in line for attractions.

Relax! That is the best advice. Last time we visited the Magic Kingdom we used RideMax. It is a non-Disney online program that allows one to pick your choice of attractions at Disneyland, California Adventure and/or Disney World and it will automatically make your itinerary. We now swear by it. It takes the guess work out of how to get the most out of your visit. Highly recommended. Check out their site and just read the reviews.
