Italia Adventure with Disney

June 22nd, 2009 . by Kate

Perfecto!
My one word definition to describe my Italian Disney Adventure – perfect!

Gelato next to the Trevi Fountain, picture taking on top of the Spanish Steps, jewelry shopping in Siena, and dinner by candlelight in a wine cellar in a villa, deep in the heart of Tuscany.

Between the amazing tour guides, fantastic restaurants or breathtaking views, my Italia Adventure that I took through Disney Adventures has been by far the best vacation (and college graduation present) I have ever experienced. In one week I had made life long friends, gained a few pounds, smiled until my cheeks ached, witnessed some of the most beautiful sunsets filled with brilliant colors of deep reds, golds and oranges, and laughed until I was gasping for air. Even now as I write this I am wearing the matching glass heart-shaped necklace that my mother and I both bought one afternoon in a little jewelry shop in Siena, after enjoying pizza at the Ristorante Al Mangia in the Plazza Del Campo, (a medieval, shell shaped public area in Siena.)

From the very first day, Heidi, Cinci, Marco and Kim – our guides – soon felt like long lost family members. Whether it be needing a bottle of water, photographer to catch the perfect family picture, or directions to dinner, our guides could not have been more fantastic.

With a stomach full of spaghetti, a VIP pass to the Galleria dell’ Academia where we got to view the Renaissance Sculpture of The David by Michelangelo, or after admiring pottery in the walled medieval town of San Gimignano, it was nice to go back “home” to our villa each evening.

Each family had their own quarters consisting of several bedrooms, bathrooms, and sitting areas.

My nights were spent sitting around the kitchen table with my family, drinking a glass of wine from the majestic town we had previously visited, while discussing our favorite moments.  There was stargazing late into the night, firefly catching and swimming in the pool by the children, and naps in the afternoon while the windows swung open and the Tuscan breeze enveloped us.

At one point during the trip I leaned over and whispered into my mom’s ear, “thank you for taking me.”  Her smile in reply translated in my mind to, “thank you for picking THIS vacation.”

I will always remember those magical seven days, where I truly was living, La Dolce Vita, the sweet life.
