Safety should be a priority when on vacation, but how many people think that they’ll be safe just because they’re in a Disney Park or Resort?
Unfortunately, even though you’re in a Disney Park it doesn’t guarantee accidents won’t happen or children won’t go missing. Here are some tips to help you enjoy a safe Disney vacation…
• Abide by the safety instructions on rides and at shows at all times, they’re there for a reason! Accidents often happen when people think the instructions don’t apply to them.
• Keep an eye on your valuables at all times. Someone can be away with your expensive camera in a matter of seconds if it’s been placed on the seat next to you.
• If you do lose anything, check with lost and found at Guest Relations.
• First aid stations are located in each of the theme parks (check out the relevant park sections). Medically trained staff are always on hand and can provide advice, along with basic medications for pain, colds, stomach upsets and general first aid. In case of emergency notify the nearest Cast Member for assistance.
• When leaving your stroller outside whilst you go on a ride or into a show, don’t leave anything of any value on it or under it. Consider placing something on your stroller that’s easily identifiable, or tying brightly colored ribbons on the handles, to prevent anyone walking off with your stroller.
• At the start of each day, pre-arrange a meeting point with your party members in case any of you get lost or separated. Don’t choose somewhere like Cinderella Castle which can get very crowded, especially at parade or show times. Instead pick somewhere like the Liberty Bell in Liberty Square, where it will be easier to see each other.
• Remember to wear sunscreen at all times, and top up regularly, especially when swimming, or on cloudy days when the sun can still penetrate the clouds.
• In the Resort hotel, don’t open the door unless you’re expecting someone. If someone knocks unexpectedly claiming to be a Cast Member, call down to the front desk to verify their identity.
• As soon as you arrive in your hotel room, check the fire / evacuation procedure, the nearest fire exits and meeting points. These are usually posted on the back of the door.
• Most hotel rooms have safes. Make use of them for money and other valuables. If you have anything of value that is too big to fit in the safe, ask at the front desk and they will store it securely for you.
• Always keep your hotel door locked, even if you’re just popping to the ice machine.
• Try not to go out alone after dark, or walk in dimly lit areas.
KIDS AT THE PARKS
• Consider renting a specialist child safety GPS system, which can help locate your chold quickly should they go missing at any time.
• Write your name and cell phone number, along with any medical conditions the child suffers from, on a piece of paper and place it inside your child’s pocket.
• Explain to your child that if they get lost they should approach the nearest Cast Member (who will be wearing a name badge) and tell them that they are lost.
• If your child goes on a ride alone, make sure you know which exit they will come out of, as they are often away from the main ride entrance.
