Kona Cafe is located on the second floor of Disney’s Polynesian Resort, and offers a contemporary choice of Asian / Pacific Rim dishes.

I love the relaxed atmosphere here, but have only ever had breakfast. Being on the dining plan this time we decided to try out lunch, and made an advanced dining reservation for 12:30pm.

It wasn’t very busy when we were arrived and we were seated quite quickly.

Both DH and I opted for the Polynesian Plate Lunch-

Pan-fried Chicken with Coconut and Mango Sauces served with sticky rice and macaroni salad

But I had fries instead of rice, and my sauces were served on the side which was better as I got much more sauce than he did!

The chicken was nicely cooked and the sauces were simply delicious, especially the mango.

DD had the kid’s burger, without cheese, and fries, served on a Mickey plate.

I was most looking forward to the desserts here, where they tantalize you by displaying them on the counter of the dessert kitchen.

Torn between the banana creme brulee and Kona kone, I eventually opted for the former, spurred on by my new-found love for creme brulees.

At first taste I wondered where the chocolate came into it until I discovered a layer of chocolate ganache underneath the delicious banana custard. This was a most heavenly dessert and a good sized portion, and my mouth is watering as I write this and see the photo again!

DH had-

Kilauea Torte
An explosion of warm liquid Chocolate inside Chocolate Cookie Volcano

DD had the kid’s ice cream sundae and enjoyed putting on her own sprinkles and chocolate sauce.

It had been DH’s birthday a couple of weeks prior and I’d noted this on the reservation, so he got a free birthday cupcake which the girls helped him eat.

Here are more of the desserts which were on offer (click for larger picture)

All in all we really enjoyed this meal and it’s somewhere I can see us returning to on future trips. If we hadn’t have been on the dining plan it would have cost $55.43 + tax.
