Teppan Edo is one of two restaurants in the Japan Pavilion at Epcot, the other being Tokyo Dining. Teppan Edo was formerly known as Mitsukoshi Teppanyaki Dining until July 2007.
I’d never been to this restaurant before so wasn’t quite sure what to expect. There are five teppan rooms, each containing tables with grills set into them. Groups of up to eight people sit around each table, so unless you’re with a large party, you’re likely to be sat with people you don’t know.
We were seated close to our ADR time of 5:50pm, on a table with two other families.
First of all, a Cast Member came to greet us, provide hot towels, and take our drink and food orders.
Next, our own personal chef came to the table to begin cooking. It being Disney, she began by making a Mickey shape on the grill with oil.
You can order appetizers if you wish, but no one on our table did, we just all sat and watched the Chef begin the “show.”
She started with the vegetables & noodles, and made a smoking volcano out of onion rings.
It’s interesting to watch the Chef chopping and cooking everything, which they have down to an art form.
Chopsticks are the norm here, and your Chef will fashion them into easier-to-use ones if you wish. Forks are also available on request.
Each guest gets a bowl of steamed white rice before the main food is served, along with a trio of dipping sauces.
The choice of entrees is fairly limited, with the offerings being chicken, sirloin steak, filet mignon, swordfish steak, scallops, and fresh seasonal vegetables. Combinations of the meats and seafood are also available. Everything is cooked on the grill in front of you.
Kids can choose from chicken, shrimp or vegetables.
The udon noodles and vegetables (onions, mushrooms, zucchini) are served first. The meats followed afterwards. I chose chicken.
DH had the filet mignon.
Personally, I would prefer everything to be served together. I don’t like eating just rice or meat on its own, and had a bit of a wait for my chicken. DH said his filet was OK, but I found the chicken to be dry.
It had taken so long for the food to be prepared and served up that the kids had got antsy, and weren’t keen on the food anyway, so we ended up leaving before dessert. This was a shame as we were on the dining plan so wouldn’t have had to pay for it!
I’ve seen some good reviews of this place and I know people who enjoy it here. Sadly, it wasn’t really our style, and being a fussy eater I wasn’t keen on the food served up, so we probably won’t return.
