Donald’s Safari breakfast replaced Donald’s Breakfastosaurus at Disney’s Animal Kingdom a few years ago. This breakfast is held at Tusker House in the Africa area of the park.
We were running a little late on our first morning there and arrived around 15 minutes after our ADR time. We were therefore surprised to be called in within a few minutes of checking in at the podium. On our way into the restaurant we were invited to have our photo taken with Donald. This was later offered to us in a themed folder for around $29.95. We declined paying this ridiculous amount for a photo, especially as we’d asked the CM present to take a pic with our own camera!
Once inside the Cast Member directed us to our table which was in the corner at the far end of the room. Soon after sitting down our server appeared, took our drinks order and provided us with glasses of the yummy Jungle Juice (just like you get at Boma).
The buffet is served in a large wonderfully themed room featuring several different stations, each with a variety of hot and cold items.
This is probably one of the best selections of food I’ve seen at a character breakfast with a wide choice of menu items. Although they may change daily, you could find the following on offer:
Fresh Fruit
Cereals
Oatmeal
Yogurts
Cinnamon Rolls
Muffins
Danish
Donuts
Plain & chocolate Croissants
Banana-cinnamon Bread Pudding
Fruit cobbler
Apple and strawberry turnovers
Whole grain breads
Orange & banana bread
Chocolate mango bread
Mealie cornbread
Cornbread
Coffee cake
Scrambled Eggs
Frittata
Biscuits & Gravy
Carved Ham
Sweet plantain
Bacon & Sausage Patties
Corned Beef Hash
Seasonal vegetable Quiche
Beef Bobotie
Oven roasted red potatoes
Cheese Blintzes
Roasted Potato Wedges
Coconut-sweet potato casserole
There’s even a kid’s buffet with Mickey Waffles, Scrambled eggs, Bacon, Sausage, and Tater Tots.
And of course, it wouldn’t be a character meal without characters! Sadly, this is where we felt a bit disappointed. We were visited by Mickey, Daisy and Goofy, all of whom seemed very rushed and barely stayed long enough for a photo. At other character meals we’ve been to, if you’re still there when they’re coming around again they’ll stop by the table to say hi, but they didn’t here.
Greetings paused part way through breakfast for the characters to take part in a conga line around the restaurant which was fun.
The excellent choice of food on offer here would tempt me to return, and hopefully the characters won’t be so rushed next time.
Let us know your experiences of this breakfast!
