Cozumel Activities

For those who don't want to take part in an cruise-organised excursion, the following are a selection of activities you can enjoy on Cozumel. You'll usually save money over cruise-organised excursions to the same places, but might have to arrange your own transportation.

Museo de Cozumel

Investigate the history of Cozumel at this fascinating museum. Discover exhibits on the island's origins, endangered species and coral reef ecology. Examine Mayan artifacts, conquistador's swords, cannons and remarkable maritime instruments.

Port Shopping District

Shop to your heart's content at one of the world's best duty-free ports. Consider bargains on diamonds, colored gemstones, jewelry, watches, gold, sterling silver and even Oriental rugs, as well as Mexican housewares and handicrafts.

Playa San Francisco Beach

Bask in the sun at one of the island's best beaches, located 10 miles south of the town center. Enjoy fantastic diving, snorkeling and other water sports — and don't miss a fine array of nearby restaurants and bars.

Beaches

Other beaches on the island include Playa del Sol, Playa Francesca, Playa Uvas & Playa Palancar, all south of San Miguel.
The beaches on the east coast are not safe for swimming but do offer scenic views.

Mr Sancho's

Mr Sancho's is a beach club and restaurant on the San Francisco Palancar beach. There is no cover charge to access the beach, unlike other beaches on the island. A wide selection of motorized and non-motorized water sports, glass bottom boat and snorkel tours, and diving are available. Visitors can also go horseback riding or take an ATV adventure.
Located south of downtown San Miguel on KM 15 on the main road. Between the Reef Club and the Allegro Resort.

Chankanaab Park

Just south of San Miguel, Chankanaab Park is home to the only inland coral reef formation in the world. You'll also find the world renowned eco-system and natural aquarium, Chankanaab Lagoon, with more than 60 species of tropical fish, crustaceans and corals and the only botanical garden on the island, featuring the most diverse species of tropical plants.
Popular park sites and excursions include Dolphin Discovery, where visitors can swim with the dolphins or simply enjoy the 45-minute dolphin encounter. The Sea Lion Show, an exciting display of stunts and other performances featuring the talents of these lovely mammals. The Maya Zone, a modern-day reproduction of a Maya village, in which visitors can learn about the ancient culture's building and farming practices. The Botanical Gardens, a forest cut by trails, in which visitors can identify 350 different plant species, watch exotic birds, or simply bask in the sun. In addition Snuba and Sea Trek are two exciting activities that provide opportunities for visitors to view the reefs located near the shore. Colorful tropical fish fill these waters for the delight of swimmers who can almost touch them.
