The ship docks at Prince George Wharf, just a short walk from the heart of Nassau. When you disembark the ship you go through the Welcome Center, a great place to pick up maps, get information or do your first bit of shopping.
From here, take a right to the famous Straw Market where you can pick up local Bahamnian crafted items. Or go straight on for the main shops on Bay Street . A right turn will take you towards the Government buildings.
Nassau is a colorful town with a rich Colonial history, where you'll not only encounter the friendly locals but also street vendors who can appear to be quite pushy. If you're not interested, just say a firm 'no' and walk on.
It's easy to get around the main heart of Nassau on foot, but if you want to visit Paradise Island, home to Atlantis Resort, or spend time on one of the many beaches, you'll need to take a taxi. A trip from the Wharf area to Paradise Island will cost approximately $4 per person plus gratuity. There are plenty of taxis available at the Welcome Center, but you may have to wait as the driver tries to get more paasengers to travel with you if it's a taxi van.
Water taxis operate between Nassau and Paradise Island, but tend to wait until they are full before departing, so may not be the best option if you're in a hurry.
Paradise Island is across the bridge from Nassau. It's home to the famous Atlantis Resort, which houses the world's largest saltwater aquarium.
