Haunted Mansion

"Welcome foolish mortals!"

The Haunted mansion is home to 999 happy haunts, but theres always room for one more…in fact, they're just 'dying' for you join them!

Cliched jokes aside though, Disneyland is home to the original Haunted Mansion, first opening its creaky doors back in 1969. Its dark-ride concept begins with a short walk-through section before boarding 2/3-person 'Doombuggies' for the remainder.

Upon entering the mansion, guests are directed toward the ‘dead centre’ of the stretching room. The reason it is so called will soon become apparent, as your ‘ghost-host’ sets the scene for the journey ahead.

Following this, you will be directed through to the loading area, from which you will board your ‘Doombugy’ and enter the dark and eerie corridors of the mansion. Throughout your passage you will encounter strange phenomenon, ghoulish goings-on and plenty of grim grinning ghosts, one of which may just ‘hitch’ a ride home with you!

During the festive season, the Haunted Mansion is given a “Nightmare Before Christmas” style makeover, as Jack Skellington and friends take up temporary residence in and around the mansion grounds. Guests can howl with plenty of holiday spirit, as characters from Tim Burton’s classic tale put a whole new spin on the attraction. Join the frightening fun and see what Jack has ‘screamed up’ for this year.

Tips & Fun Facts

If you're in the queue that passes by the cemetaries, read the epitaphs on the tombstones.

The place settings in the dining room scene form a Mickey head shape.
Just before you enter the elevator, stand right underneath the candlestick holders which are on the wall. Look up and you'll see a hidden Mickey.

Although the exterior of the mansion was completed in 1963, the attraction did not open until 1969.
The attraction was originally going to be a walk-through.
During the holiday season, feel a festive chill as a whole new crew of fun-loving spooks — led by Jack Skellington — haunts the mansion's hallowed halls during Haunted Mansion Holiday. The attraction closes late September for a few weeks for the makeover, and is changed back again in January.
Paul Frees provides the voice for the Ghost Host.
Contrary to popular belief, "Grim Grinning Ghosts" is not performed by the Mellomen, but rather by a pickup group. Thurl Ravenscroft, a member of the Mellomen, can be heard as one of the singing busts in the graveyard scene. His face is also projected onto one of the busts, and often mistaken for that of Walt Disney.
