Tips & Fun Facts

A doorway from the upstairs gallery leads to a balcony which provides great views of Fantasyland.

Sleeping Beauty Castle is 45 metres high, some 22 metres taller than the original Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland. The Castle is made to look bigger than it actually is through the use of forced perspective.
When designing the Castle, Imagineers had a challenge on their hands. Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland was inspired by Neuschwanstein Castle in Southern Germany, but as that isn't far from Disneyland Paris, they had to rethink and look further afield for their inspiration. They finally settled on illustrations from Book of Hours Les Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry and the Mont Saint Michel monastery in Normandy. The square trees surrounding the Castle were based on those seen in Disney's 1959 film Sleeping Beauty.
The sleeping dragon is 27 metres from head to tail, and when the park first opened in 1992, it was the largest Audio-Animatronic figure ever built.

Every year at Christmastime, the Castle is turned into an Ice Palace. The Castle is covered in thousands of tiny fairy lights, which are lit each night for the "Enchanted Fairytale Ceremony."
The Park's first anniversary saw the Castle transformed into a giant birthday cake.
For Disneyland Park's 5th anniversary, the theme was "Festival of Fools" from Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame. Each spire was decorated with jester hats and faces, with a large number 5 on the front of the Castle, which was renamed "Chateau des Fous."
The 15th anniversary sees Le Chateau decorated with 15 candles, and 26 golden character statues:
Buzz Lightyear, Cheshire Cat, Chip 'n' Dale, Daisy Duck, Donald Duck, Dumbo, Goofy, Huey, Dewey & Louie, Jiminy Cricket, Lumiere, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pinocchio & Figaro, Pluto, Seven Dwarfs, Tinker Bell.
