Walt Disney Studios Theme Park Facts

Surface area of the Walt Disney Studios Park: 25 hectares

Opening date: March 16, 2002

Ground breaking took place in July 1999 following 3 months of archaeological research.

1.6 million cubic metres of earth were moved during construction.  5,000 tons of stainless steel and 45,000 cubic metres of cement were used.

The Park has 422 km of radio cabling (equivalent to the distance between Marne La Vallée and the city of Lyon).

The 33 metre tall water tower that marks the entrance to the new Park is inspired by the working water tower that has been a landmark at the Disney Studios in Burbank, California, since 1939.  Originally,
water towers were used to control fires on the studio properties.  Today, water towers serve as the traditional reference in the world of Hollywood movie studios.

The Walt Disney Studios Park is the first Disney 'studio' park to exist outside the United States. Disney has located its studio operations in a variety of locations, including Kingswell Avenue in Hollywood (1923), Los Angeles’ Hyperion Boulevard (1926), Burbank (1940) and the Disney's Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World (1989).
