View Full Version : Pre-pay gratuities
Recognizing Disney Cruise LineŽ Cast Members for exceptional service is now easier than ever. That's because you now have the option to pre-pay for their gratuities.
This can also help expedite you check-out process onboard the ship by eliminating the need to wait in line at Guest Services.
Pre-paid gratuities can be added to a reservation up to three days prior to sailing.

I've used this feature when cruising with another company (NCL). It's a wonderful and hassle free way to take care of the gratuity issue. You can always give individuals a bit extra if you please, but knowing that everyone (other than some servers) are taken care of is a big relief.
Cant work out if this is a good thing or not. Gratuity should be reflective of the service received, paying it before you arrive at the restaurant seems a bit back to front :hehe: I guess its one less thing to worry about before you leave :)

Not sure how it works on DCL but with NCL, the gratuities are not "paid" until the last day of the cruise. That way you can go to the front desk and adjust them in whatever manner is necessary. If your service was poor, then you can reduce the gratuity... that sort of thing.
I've only ever had stellar service on NCL so haven't ever considered decreasing the amount. (They add a simple ten dollars per day to your shipboard credit for gratuities. Can't really complain about that)!
We saw that NCL added gratuities on a daily basis, when we were looking at cruises just recently. I thought it was a good idea as everything is paid up and you don't have to worry about having cash with you.

All sorted - just had confirmation ours have been added. $175 for a family of 4 on a 4 night cruise
When pre-paying the gratuities you are given vouchers to hand out to the appropriate people on the last day of your cruise. If you had bad service and want to change the amount you can go to guest service to take care of it. If you had great service and you want to give a little more you can just add cash along with the voucher or again go to guest service to add it to your vouchers

Hmmmm...not so sure I like that. More in favour of the NCL method of just adding a flat rate to your onboard credit. They sort out who gets what. If you want to give a particular person more, you do it privately. (Like the stateroom attendants and so forth).

I prefer to hand in the vouchers or cash to each person so that I can thank them for the great job they did. We have never encountered a person who hasn't provided great service

:iagree: Jo
I like the voucher method too  It's even more convenient knowing we have paid for them before we board and we can always top up the envelopes with cash for exceptional CM's.
