Approaching DH with another trip..........

I've been mulling over trying to convince DH that it's time to take another trip.

Angelina's birthday is Sept 1st i.e., Labor Day weekend. We have no plans to take a family vacation this summer - apart from camping for Memorial Weekend.

I've figured it up, with summer specials we could go for 3 nights/2 days (no PH) for less than $1,500 (that includes gas and food).

Here's the problem. DH is very anti-Disney :tears:. He thinks it's a 'waste of money' to go on vacation there because of how outrageous ticket prices have gotten.

Financially we are doing 'alright.' We're considering renting our house in TN out, which will save us quite a bit of money/monthly. I'm making small amounts of money with my side photography business. We've paid off 1 credit card, have 1 to go.

Part of the reason I'm nervous to bring up the subject, also aside from DH's distaste for WDW, is that Gabriella and I are going to Spain next summer. G's portion of the trip is already paid for, my portion is still being paid on monthly. I'm afraid he'll immediately say no because of this.

If your circumstances were what mine are above, would you ask your DH/DW to go for the long weekend?

Well, it is finally here. We leave today. All flights times have changed. Because of my handicap, I prefer a non-stop flights. We have always taken the 11 am flight. Since the merge of Southwest and Airtran, that flight was eliminated. So our choices were 6 am or 6 pm. We chose the later flight. Coud not envision getting up at 3 to get to airport by 4 am. So we will get to resort by 10 pm. No chance to do anything today. We did score Business Class seats for the trip down. I prefer BC due to my claustrophobia.

Will check in while we are down there.

Should we really be going again!!!!

Why yes...we should!!! And, why you ask? Because I'm sick of doing dishes and it's better to have someone do it for you when dining is free!!

This is just a pre-trip report right now but I'm in the planning mood and have a short amount of time before work starts up again (hopefully)..

Sit back and relax and have a cup of tea or ice cream or whatever you need to get through my long winded posts!

Cast:
Me: Regina - mom, wife, history professor

DH: Clint - Dad, husband, and I still can't figure out what his job EXACTLY is. He is kind of like Chandler in Friends. We know he has one and we know the company but I really don't know what it is he does every day! And, yes he has explained it to me several times.

DS(5): Tommy - the "mostly good" boy. He has his moments but for the most part, he is really well behaved, a good listener and math wiz. This will be his 4th trip

DS(1 1/2): Sean - the active one. Not much to say other than that. He is REALLY active. He is constantly in motion and gets into EVERYTHING but then again....don't all 1 1/2 year old boys? This will be his 2nd trip.

Now, there are more members to the cast but I'm not exactly sure if they want me publishing info about them on here so I'll have to get permission before I put anything up here. The most info I'll give you is that it is DB, DSIL, DNephew, DNiece.

Now, before I mentioned that DS5 is the "mostly good" boy. But when him and DNephew get together, that "mostly good" changes.

Both families have different arrival/departure dates so I'll mostly post our dates. And they are:

Friday, August 25th to Monday, September 3

I'm not at all happy about these dates. We much prefer to go in the winter and escape some crowds and blistering heat but it's just not possible anymore. We don't want to take DS5 out of school and I can't take off as I don't get vacation time and really do not want to take off in the middle of the semester. The good thing is that we can take advantage of free dining.

We will be driving from NJ and my brother and his family will be flying. We much prefer driving right now. Maybe when the kids are older flying would be more convenient but we find it very difficult to worry about suitcase weights, strollers and security checks. This will be the 5th time we are driving and find that DS5 is quite accustomed to it. We shall see how DS 1 fares since last time we was only 2 months old and slept the majority of the trip.

And lastly (for now at least) the resorts. We prefer to stay on property and usually in the moderates. This is the first time in a long time that we will be staying back at Caribbean Beach. We did it for DS5 because he is into pirates right now. We are concerned about the amount of walking that is involved with this resort but as of right now we have resolved ourselves to using the van if it becomes a problem. I'm not sure which I prefer though. The hot walk back to the room or getting into a hot van to go back and forth. I think this one will just have to work itself out on the trip.

Yes, I DID say resorts above!!! DB and family will be staying at the Wilderness lodge. Not really much else to say on this. They have always wanted to stay there and since there is free dining, they are making up that difference by staying at a deluxe for the first time.

Port Orleans Riverside opinions/info?

Hi all

Still planning our trip for next year and gathering up info and prices, my job has recently been cut in terms of wages and holiday allocation so the budget decreased for this adventure but still want to go next year as I dont know when we will be able to go again after that.

I know when I read through on here that a lot of you like POFQ but as we are a family of 5 we would need to stay in Riverside to accomodate us all in one room. Has anyone stayed here or got a viewpoint on this resort?

I was wanting to know is it as large as it looks or can you get to the food court easily from all buildings, what is your opinion of the bus service as I am anxious that I read it is very busy to use. Are all the rooms now refurbished?

Finally it would be probably now be a choice between POR and OKW but OKW is still quite a bit more so is it really worth it? and we have stayed at OKW before is it time to try somewhere new?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Wheelchair hire

Hiya,

Unfortunately my MIL is going through a hard time at the moment as she has terrible knee and hip problems. Thankfully she is due to have an operation to fix the problems however this won't be until after our holiday in August.

We have figured that the best option is to hire her a wheelchair during our trip so that we have one on hand as she will definitely need one during the long days.

My MIL doesn't have a wheelchair here, she just has a walking stick as she doesn't really do much walking if she can help it. Obviously on holiday walking is imperative though!

Seeing as we know nothing about wheelchairs or hiring them in Orlando can anyone offer any advise please?

Labor Day weekend + Free Dining = ?

Have they EVER offered free dining over labor day weekend? I know this weekend is MAD busy, but I thought about seeing if I could convince DH to take the long weekend to take the girls to WDW. This weekend is Angelina's birthday weekend, so it would be all or none of us going. Since Gabriella & I are going to Spain next year, Angelina is kind of missing out on any sort of vacationing this year :sigh:.

If dining were 'free' it sure would help my argument :lol:.

If not free dining, are there ever discounts available on that weekend?

Leave in 2 days, don't want to go!

I never thought I would say those words, but everything is happening at once. We leave Wednesday and I will be on the plane, but I wish I had another week before we left.

I just had new oak cabinets in the laundry room. They look awesome. But now the laundry
room needs a coat of paint. Decided on a color, but will have to wait until we come home to start painting.

I am sitting here waiting for my new living rorom furniture. I special ordered style and fabric. They told me 6 weeks and it's been about 4 and it is coming TODAY! So now I need new throw rugs, side tables and curtains and I don't have time to get them by Wednesday!

I really don't like leaving in the middle of projects cause I know when I come home I will need to rest before I can start working.

We are looking forward to getting down there DD has two friends from school in the college program. Their last day of work is tomorrow, but they will be on property until Friday so we hope to see them before they leave.
