Well after being home for over a month I have finally gotten time to sit down and start my trip report. Leading up to this trip I was filled with many emotions. Sadness because my mother-in-law could not join us like planned because she was sick, stress because planning a trip for 6 people is nothing but stressful and excitement because I was going back to my happiest place. The trip was amazing although there were a couple of sad parts along the way but I wouldn’t change anything about it. I already started planning our next trip on the bus back to the airport and I’m hoping to make it another family trip (who would have thought?). So while I’m working on day 1 I’ll leave you with one of my favorite pictures from the week. Hope you stick around and enjoy!

    Day 1

If you would like to read my pre-trip report it can be found here. http://www.magicalkingdoms.com/forums/showthread.php?2257-Meg1884-s-Pre-Trip-Report! This trip includes DH (Chuck) and I, my parents (Bob and Sharon), my brother (Bobby), and my sister (Christine aka Teenie). We’ll also be joined by Chuck’s grandparents for one night.
I’m going to warn you now that I don’t have a lot of pictures from day 1. This trip was the first time we shipped a box down via UPS with all of our soaps so we wouldn’t have to pack them. Unfortunately DH also packed our camera charger in that box before he charged our camera so I was only able to take a couple of pictures at the airport before the camera died. I do have the photopass pics though so I hope that makes up for it. Also I was really bad with food pictures for this trip. On our honeymoon I always made sure I took pictures of the food before we dug in but this trip was just too crazy with six people. I’ve promised myself I’m not making the same mistake next time. Ok on to the report.
I ended up getting to bed fairly early 9PM considering we had a 3:30AM car service pickup. The alarm went off around 1:30AM so that we could both shower and put our carry on bags together. I didn’t sleep well because I was so excited so I got up right at 1:30. Why is it that I hit the snooze button five or six times for work or school but never have to for a trip??? The car service was picking us up at my parents’ house (5 minutes away) so my dad came and got us around 3:00. We got to my parents’ house around 3:15 (we were a little late with the 3:00 pick up) and the car service van was already there so we started loading all the luggage (we had dropped our’s off the night before). Bobby and Teenie weren’t there because they decided to make a Wawa run for coffee. Teenie actually stayed up all night and I still don’t know how she did it. Once everything was loaded up we were off to the airport and sunny Florida for 8 days! Airport security went pretty well considering my dad hadn’t flown since 1998 so all of it was new to him. He had his knee replaced two years ago so he ended up having to be pat down but it didn’t take long and before we knew it we were sitting down at our gate.

Once we got all the airport pictures taken my dad took out a new video camera to surprise us. My parents decided to get one since none of us have one and we have always taken videos on our previous Disney trips. We love sitting down and watching them together. They are so funny and bring back great memories. After a quick video my mom and I walked around the airport to kill some time. We ended up finding an Earl of Sandwich (when did that get put in?!?). It was too early though so we weren’t able to try it and see how it stands up to the DTD one. We made our way back when the sun began to rise and my mom took a quick picture of the plane.

Before we knew it we were lining up to get onto the plane. We were A30-35 so we got on fairly early and grab two rows toward the front. The seating ended up being my mom, Teenie and Bobby in one row since they wanted to sleep on the plane and my dad, Chuck and I in front of them since we wanted to read for the flight. The flight was smooth and as usual Southwest was great. We took off at 6:45AM and arrived in Orlando around 8:30AM. We did our usual bathroom stop and then moved onto the “fake” monorail. Once over to the “fun” side of the airport we stopped in the Universal Store (lots of Harry Potter stuff!) and then the Kennedy Space Center to ask about the launch since we would be around for it. We then headed to the Magical Express!
Leading up to the trip I had upgraded us from the Pop Century to the Caribbean Beach without telling anyone. I had wanted to surprise everyone once we got on the Magical Express but a couple of things came up before the trip and I decided just to surprise everyone before we left. As I walked up to the Magical Express I saw that Pop Century and Caribbean Beach were the same bus and I wanted to kick myself. Why didn’t I keep the secret until the end??? Oh well there is always next time. We ended up on a Mears bus with one of the weirdest drivers I have ever seen. He kept telling everyone Disney trivia (which is fine) but he did the strangest facial expressions while talking. We did impressions of him the entire week. LOL
Caribbean Beach ended up being the first stop so we were soon off and at our home for the week. No one in the group except Teenie had ever stayed here before so we were all excited. I had done online check-in before we left so my dad and I went up to that line and were quickly given our Keys to the Kingdom cards and our folders with everything for the week which included a birthday button for Chuck and anniversary buttons for my parents. I have to be honest I was nervous about online check-in since I had never done it before but it worked out great. There wasn’t anyone in line when we arrived while the normal check-in had 7 or 8 people waiting. Our rooms were ready and we were in Aruba (building 53? I’m sorry I can’t remember). I had requested second floor connecting rooms in either Aruba or Jamaica so I was happy to see that they could meet those requests. I had heard the resort busses can be a little slow so we decided just to walk from Customs House to our building. It ended up being about a 10 minute walk since we didn’t know where we were going and it was HOT! We found the rooms though and were happy to see that Chuck, Teenie and my room was on the end and had an extra window. The room looked great (it was a Nemo room) although there weren’t any towel animals. We ended up not getting any all week. We quickly dropped all of our carry ons and headed out to Animal Kingdom for the day.

    Day 1 Part 2

The bus for Animal Kingdom came fairly quickly and before we knew it we could see Expedition Everest off in the distance. I was really excited to go here first, one because it’s one of my favorites from our honeymoon and also because most of my family hadn’t been here since 1998. We were there a month after it opened and it was awful. There wasn’t any shade, not many rides were opened and it was hot, so hot that Disney was handing out free water. We stopped for some of our first photopass pictures of the trip.

Then we were off to grab some lunch since we hadn’t really eaten breakfast. Chuck and I decided to take everyone to our second favorite counter service on property….Flame Tree BBQ. My mom and I ended up splitting the pulled pork sandwich and some onion rings. I’m pretty sure almost everyone got the pulled pork. It was yummy as usual and everyone loved the place. It’s now on our list as a must do each trip. Once we finished Chuck and I took everyone’s tickets and ran over to Kali River Rapids in the hopes of some fastpasses. Unfortunately they weren’t being used so we decided to get some for Expedition Everest instead. We ended up getting some pictures taken along the way.

Once we got back together with the group I believe we headed to It’s Tough To Be A Bug since we had some time to kill before our EE fastpass.

The show was fun as usual although I hate the stink bug part. After that we headed over to EE. I have to be honest, Chuck and I didn’t like this ride when we rode it on our honeymoon. I don’t know why but we just didn’t care for it. This time we decided to ride with Chuck and I up front (so I could point out the yeti for everyone), my parents behind us and Bobby and Teenie behind them. Everyone loved it although my mom didn’t have any desire to go on again. I don’t know why we didn’t like it the last trip but we couldn’t get enough of it this trip. Once off the ride Bobby grabbed us 6 more fastpasses and we headed over to Dinosaur. This was a favorite of my family’s for our 1998 trip and we loved it again. It’s a rough ride but still fun. We then headed over to Kali River Rapids. My dad, Chuck and I were the only ones who wanted to go on this so we changed into our bathing suits and left our bags with my mom, Bobby and Teenie who ended up getting frozen lemonades and sitting in the shade. The three of us had never done Kali before and even though it was a 35 minute wait we still loved it. Getting wet felt so good since it was so hot out. Once off we met back up with everyone else and headed back to Expedition Everest but not before another picture.

We grabbed 6 more fastpasses and then ended up separating. My mom and I wanted to do some shopping and my dad wanted to sit down for a little so we left Bobby, Teenie and Chuck with all the fastpasses so they could ride Expedition Everest a couple of times and we headed up front to shop. After we got done shopping the three of us headed over to Camp Minnie and Mickey to see what characters we could get some pictures with. Along the way we ran into these two.

Once inside the camp area we also met these characters.

By now the rest of the group was done riding Everest and had met up with us. I snapped a nice picture of everyone.

Then I snapped a fun one.

We then went to change out of our bathing suits. Once we were done with that we ended up running into my parents neighbors. We had no idea they were coming down too so we stopped to chat. It was so funny seeing them down there.
It was now time to say goodbye to Animal Kingdom for the day and head to our dinner ADR (Advance Dining Reservations) at Boma. We quickly caught the bus to Animal Kingdom Lodge and checked in at Boma. We were a little early for our ADR (Advance Dining Reservations) but they sat us right away. Chuck and I had eaten breakfast here in 2009 but none of us had eaten dinner here before. I’m so glad we did! It was yummy!!! Everyone enjoyed it and we all tried lots of different food. So far I was 2 for 2 with places to eat. Would I be able to keep that record?

Originally we had planned to head back to Caribbean Beach after dinner to unpack and get to bed early but we decided to head over to Disney Hollywood Studios theme park at WDW to try and see Fantasmic.

This was a mistake. We would have been fine for the 9:00 show if we had walked right over and gotten a seat but instead I rushed everyone over to the animation area in the hopes of Lotso being there for photos. He was already gone and they were starting to setup for the Winnie the Pooh ones they had planned. We ended up jumping on the Great Movie Ride and by the time we got out Fantasmic was completely full. My dad, Chuck, Bobby, Teenie, and I ended up jumping on Tower of Terror while my mom enjoyed a frozen lemonade (nowhere near as good as the ones from Animal Kingdom earlier in the day). After that we decided to call it a night. There was a 10PM Fantasmic but we were all starting to drag at that point so we headed back to Caribbean Beach. Our bags were in the room so we unpacked quickly, turned on Stacy (my sister and I had her on all week) and jumped into bed for the night. All in all it was a great start to the trip although I wish we had just skipped Disney Hollywood Studios theme park at WDW completely.

Next up…Day 2 at Magic Kingdom!

Debi we loved May. Other than October it's now one of our favorite times to go. The first two days were hot and there was 2 days with rain in the afternoon but other than that it was beautiful. Plus the crowds weren't too bad. I don't think we waited more than 10 minutes for any ride except for Kali River.

    Day 2

We awoke to an early morning wake-up call (6AM) because we had early ADRs (Advance Dining Reservations) at Kona Café this morning. The first full day of our Disney trips are always my favorite because we always go to the Magic Kingdom that day and always begin the day with breakfast at Kona. Once we were ready we snapped a couple of pics in the room.

Then it was off to the bus stop to catch the bus to Magic Kingdom.

Once we got to the Magic Kingdom we headed straight for the monorail where we waited, and waited, and waited some more for the monorail. We were starting to get close to our ADR (Advance Dining Reservations) time which normally wouldn’t bother me since Kona is never that crowded in the morning but my parents were doing the Keys to the Kingdom tour this morning so we were on a time crunch. Finally the monorail showed up and so began the longest monorail ride ever. We ended up having to stop for 15 minutes before the Tomorrowland Transit Authority at WDW Magic Kingdom because they were running some tests on the monorail. We finally arrived at the Polynesian and were quickly seated.

I did manage to take a picture of what Chuck and I ordered. Chuck went with my favorite, the Tonga Toast.

I went with the Macadamia Pancakes. They were yummy and may be my new favorite breakfast.

We then lined up to catch the monorail back to the Magic Kingdom. Thankfully it was a much shorter line this time.

We snapped a couple of quick group pictures before entering the park.

It was getting close to the time my parents needed to check-in for their tour so we walked them over to it and grabbed some more pictures.

We then said our goodbyes and separated more the morning/afternoon.

We decided to start off in Fantasyland first, but we ran in to a couple characters and had to stop for some pictures.

None of us had ever seen the evil stepsisters and stepmother before. They were hysterical and we loved them. First up was Mickey’s Philharmagic.Teenie decided to strike a pose before we entered the theater.

Followed by Snow White, Peter Pan and It’s a Small World.

    We then headed to…

We did the new interactive line and it is amazing! A must do for everyone. We tried to find the bride’s ring but were unable to. We did ask someone about it and planned to find it the next time we went on.

I was able to find this guy for the first time. I miss that ride. :(

We then headed back to grab some fast passes for Splash Mountain and then over to Adventureland where we went on the Jungle Cruise and Pirates. Once off Pirates we ran into these two.

We then headed back to go on Splash Mountain (one of my favorites) and Big Thunder Mountain. It was now time for lunch so we decided to try Columbia Harbor House for the first time. I ended up with fried shrimp and really enjoyed it. Once lunch was over we realized it was almost time for my parents to be done their tour so we made our way up to Main Street and ran into the Mayor of Main Street for the first time ever.

My parents still hadn’t called yet so we did some shopping to kill so time. We eventually caught up with them and got to hear all about the tour. They loved it! Chuck and I can’t wait to book it for our next trip. My mom wanted to do some shopping so her and my dad went off to do that while the rest of us caught the bus back to Caribbean Beach for some drinks and pool time. We grabbed the drinks and decided to head over to the Aruba quiet pool. There really weren’t many people there so we were able to enjoy our drinks and some swimming. After a little while we decided to head back to get ready for dinner and hopefully Fantasmic. It looked like it was going to storm so we decided to cancel our ADR’s at ‘Ohana and hit up the food court. It did eventually storm but we were eating so we missed it all. I ended up with pizza for dinner which was good but nothing special. Once the rain stopped we caught the bus over to Disney Hollywood Studios theme park at WDW. We went right over to Fantasmic so we could get a seat this time. For the next trip I’ve decided I’m going to book the Fantasmic dinner package because the wait before the show if you don’t have it is insane sometimes. The show was great as usual and I was happy my family finally got to see it. After the show we jumped on Tower of Terror for a couple of times (I love that ride) and then headed out for the night.

Once again it was another great day. We really lucked out with the crowds.

    Coming up next…Chuck’s Birthday Dinner

    Day 3

Well it was finally here after all of my planning. Today was the day we were going to be celebrating Chuck’s birthday with dinner, his grandparents and a few surprises.

We had another early wake-up call and were quickly on our way to the food court to grab some breakfast. Chuck ended up going with the cinnamon roll and I went with the chocolate croissant. We also shared some pineapple. Everything was yummy!

After breakfast we were off to the bus stop to head out to Epcot.

Once we got there my sister and I grabbed everyone tickets and ran over to Soarin to grab some fastpasses while everyone else made their way over to Test Track. The line for Test Track was only 10 minutes so they waited for us and then we all jumped on. The line went fast and it was nice having the entire car to ourselves. As usual we loved it and my family did too (it was their first time on it).

After Test Track we walked over to Mission Space where Bobby, Chuck and I jumped on the green side while everyone else waited for us. Chuck and I have done both sides before and really like it but I could tell Bobby was a little nervous since he had never done it before and had heard horror stories about it. He really liked it once it was all over so we grabbed fastpasses for the orange side when we got off. Now it was onto Chuck’s favorite ride, Spaceship Earth. The line was around 20 minutes so we took the time to call the kennel and check on all the pets.

Chuck and I were the only ones who had been on the updated version of this so we were excited for everyone to check it out. They really liked it (how can you not?). It was now time to head over to my favorite ride in Epcot…Soarin! Even with fastpasses we ended up waiting around 20 minutes but we did end up with the top row. It was great as usual. I really love the music for that ride. Once off we were starting to get hungry for lunch so we split up because we couldn’t decide on one place. My parents and Teenie ended up getting ice cream while Chuck, Bobby and I ended up at the Electric Umbrella. I have to be honest we hated this meal. I had suggested walking over to the countries and grabbing something but got out voted. Once the meal was over they agreed that we should have done that. We all ended up with burgers and they just weren’t good. Also we had to wait to be let in to the actually building. I don’t ever remember there being a line before but there was a cast member who made you wait to be let in. Needless to say we won’t be returning there. After lunch we all met back up to head over to Figment (I know that isn’t what it’s called but that’s what we call it).

None of us had been on the ride in years (back when the Dreamfinder was in it) and while it was cute we definitely missed the original ride.

When we got off it was around 1:00 and the skies were getting dark so we decided to head back to the hotel to rest some before the big dinner. Along the way we jumped on the Seas with Nemo and Friends since it had a short line. Once we got off the ride it started to rain a little so we made a run for it to the front but not before getting a picture with Lotso.

Once we walked past the gates it began to downpour so we all put on our ponchos and made a run for the Caribbean Beach bus (why are those bus stops so far away at Epcot?). By the time we made it back to Caribbean Beach the rain had stopped a little. Once back in our rooms however it began to really storm. Most of us ended up napping at this point since we knew it was going to be a long night. Before I knew it my cell phone alarm was ringing and it was time to get up for dinner. We had arranged for a taxi to pick us up and take us over to the Boardwalk since trying to get there by bus is a pain. While we were waiting we snapped a couple of pictures since we were probably going to look like drowned rats once we stepped outside.

At this point I told Chuck where we were actually going to dinner. His favorite restaurant on property is the Flying Fish. When I called to make ADR’s I was told I had to call the actual restaurant since we were a party of 8. That’s when I decided to tell Chuck I called and never got a return phone call from Flying Fish. He was so mad and even said he was going to walk over sometime on this trip to complain. I told him I was able to get an ADR (Advance Dining Reservations) for the Coral Reef instead. I was so excited to finally tell him and he was very excited to be going back there. It was still pouring now and I was starting to get really nervous since I had planned (as another surprise) the Illuminations boat cruise and wasn’t sure if it would get rained out. I never even thought up a backup plan just in case the weather was bad. We arrived at the Boardwalk and I left everyone in the lobby to walk over to Flying Fish and check us in. Everyone really liked the Boardwalk and we all agreed we would like to stay there for a future trip. Once Chuck’s grandparents showed up we were seated for dinner.

I can’t remember what our waiters name was but he was fantastic. He gave lots of suggestions from the menu and was pretty funny. I believe my dad and Chuck’s grandfather ended up ordering the special ( I can’t remember what that was), Chuck and my brother got the red snapper (always yummy), Chuck’s grandmother and I got the scallops (also yummy), and my mom and sister got the steak (which was to die for!).This was the only picture of the food from dinner. Chuck took it of his red snapper.

Once dinner was finished I asked for the check and before I received it my second surprise was brought out…

This was so yummy! I ordered it through the Boardwalk Bakery (they were awesome) and I loved the way it turned out. Everyone agreed that it was by far the best cake they had ever had. I would highly recommend them. Once dinner was paid for we made our way out to the Boardwalk where thankfully the rain had stopped. My final surprise for Chuck was pulling up.

Our boat captain was Katie and she was awesome. She had snacks and drinks on board and also grabbed us some blankets since it was a little chilly on the water. Once we left the Boardwalk we took a trip down to Disney Hollywood Studios theme park at WDW.

We then ended up under the bride that leads into France but got clearance to go even closer to watch Illuminations. This was probably my favorite memory of the trip. Watching the show from where we were is a great experience and it’s always nice to have the privacy of your own boat.

Once the show was over we pulled back into the dock at the Boardwalk and said goodbye to Katie. We then decided to split up. My dad, Bobby and Teenie caught a bus over to the Magic Kingdom which had extra magic hour until 12 while Chuck’s grandparents drove my mom, Chuck and I back to Caribbean Beach. We were tired and ready to jump into bed. The rest of the group didn’t get back until late (I slept through them coming in). Despite the rain (and the stress from it) this day turned out even better than I had hoped it would. I still can’t believe I was able to pull off all of the surprises on Chuck.

Up next…Toy Story Mania, Star Tours and another amazing meal.
