Life Update...It's been a long time!
Wow I cannot believe I haven't touched this trip report since the summer. Sorry for not finishing it but life just got in the way. Here is a life update and then I will start working on my next entry.
I ended up getting a part-time job for the second half of the summer so that basically took over my life on top of being exhausted from the pregnancy. In September I was back in school which kept me so busy that I didn't even have time to think. Looking back I wish I had taken the semester off and just worked. Trying to stay up all night to study while being pregnant just doesn't work. I survived the semester and up until that time my pregnancy was going great. We found out we were having a boy also so we quickly got to working on his Disney themed nursery. Right around Christmas my blood pressure started to get out of control. I stopped working and was basically on bed rest but it was still way too high. By January 1st I realized I probably wouldn't be making it to my February 13th due date but I was just crossing my fingers that I would make it to around 38 weeks. Then on January 8th (my birthday) DH and I went to triage in the maternity floor because I was having blurred vision and a bad headache. As soon as they checked my blood pressure I know it wasn't good. My doctor quickly came in to tell me that it was so high that I was lucky I hadn't had a stroke yet and that she would be rushing me into the OR for a c-section. Needless to say I was a bit of a mess. My mom is actually a nurse in the NICU at that hospital so I felt good about the care he would be getting but it was still scary since I was 34 weeks and 6 days pregnant. At 3:43 PM Charles Robert was born weighing 4lbs 5 ounces and 17 1/2 inches long. He was quickly taken to the NICU and ended up only needing to be on oxygen for 24 hours. Needless to say those 2 weeks he was in the NICU were the hardest of our lives but thankfully he did really well and could finally come home on January 24th. He has done so well since he has been home. We have our 2 month doctors appointment on Thursday but I weighed him myself 2 days ago and he was 7lbs 2 ounces. So that has been what I have been up to. Now that he is here and healthy I have been daydreaming and planning our next trip to Disney...his first trip! We had originally talked about another family trip in May 2013 to celebrate Charlie's first trip and my parents' 30th wedding anniversary but once we all sat down and looked over our finances we decided that waiting until 2014 would be better especially since we want to stay at the Polynesian this time. Alright I'm off to try and work on my next entry for the report which will hopefully be posted sometime today as long as the baby naps long enough for me to finish it. Have I missed anything since being gone? I can't wait to catch up on everyone else's trip reports.

Day 5 - Universal Studios
Well it was finally the day I had been waiting for….we were off to Universal Studios! I hadn’t been to the park since 1996 (Islands of Adventure didn’t exist then) so I was excited to see how different it was but more importantly I was excited to see the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. My dad had found a company (I can’t remember the name but I can search it out if anyone wants it) where you can buy your 2 park tickets for the day and they would also pick you up from your Disney hotel and bring you home at the end of the day. I believe the price was around $130 a person which was a great deal since I’m pretty sure it was $5 cheaper to buy your tickets through Universal. We were up early and made our way over to the food court to grab some breakfast before the bus came. I ended up having a plate of eggs and bacon, a chocolate croissant (so yummy!) and a cup of coffee. After breakfast we headed over to the food court entrance to wait for the bus.
The bus showed up right on time and already had a good amount of people on it. Luckily we were the last stop on Disney property so we were on our way. The bus was also taking people to Discovery Cove so we headed there first. Chuck and I have said that we really need to go there on a future trip although I don’t know if we will be able to fit it in for 2014 with Charlie. We quickly dropped off the Discovery Cove people and were back on the road and quickly pulling into Universal. The driver gave all of us a card that was our “ticket” for our ride back to Disney. All we needed to do was call the # on it 2 hours before we were ready to be picked up. He also said that we could be dropped off at any hotel on Disney property which we would take advantage of later. We got there about 30 minutes before the park opened so we went to go stand in line and before we knew it we were off to the back of the park to the Harry Potter section.
I really want to stay here.
Before I knew it we were walking up to this…
This place is amazing! Now my brother, Chuck and I are total Harry Potter nerds so we loved it but even my sister (who didn’t want to go here) admitted that it was really cool. On our way back to the castle Bobby and I stopped to get a Butterbeer even though it was 9:00 AM. LOL We both got the frozen kind since that is the one I had heard was the best and it was. I wish I could have one right now.
It was now time to jump on the ride but right before we got on we stood with a group of other people to see if we could see the shuttle launch that was going off that morning. Unfortunately it was really cloudy at that moment and while one woman claimed she saw the ship nobody else did. Not a big deal for our group since my dad and I were the only two that seemed to care about seeing it. Now it was time to ride!
I don’t have any pictures of the line since we got a locker and left everything in there but I must admit that pictures never would have done it justice. Everything was amazing although my personal favorite was the Sorting Hat. It wasn’t very crowded so we just took our time walking through the line and let people go around us if they wanted to. I’m pretty sure it took us about 20 minutes to get to the ride. We split up into groups of 3 with my parents and sister going in one car and my brother, Chuck and I going in another. I won’t spoil the ride for anyone who hasn’t been on it yet but I will say that it was even better than what I had imagined. I had avoided reading any spoilers on the ride so that I could be totally surprised by it. Once we finished with the ride Bobby, Teenie, Chuck and I jumped on the Dragon Challenge. It wasn’t very crowded so we were able to do both sides without waiting a long time. It was fun but nothing special to me. I will say that they really need to put better lighting in the line once you get inside. There were stairs and we couldn’t see them at all and almost fell on them. After the two coasters we just walked around to look at everything including the stores.
Mom with the Conductor
High school Musical Jump! LOL
Once we had looked around enough we grabbed another drink (Bobby got another Butterbeer while I tried a Pumpkin Juice which I actually ended up liking even more than the Butterbeer. It reminded me of spiced apple cider which I love). We were then off to see more of the park. We realized that Jurassic Park was broken for the day (Boo!) so we headed over to jump on the Hulk ride. My parents sat this one out. We liked this ride a lot and the line moved really quickly. Then it was on to the Spiderman ride. I loved this ride but I will say it really whips you around. My dad and I ended up on the ends and our shoulders were hurting by the end of the ride. I really enjoyed it though and I wish we could have gotten on it again but the park was closing at 6:00 PM so we had a schedule to keep. We then decided to head over the Universal side of the park. As soon as we entered the park we ran into these guys…
We then walked over to the Beetlejuice show. On our way we noticed that the Monster Café was closed which was a bummer since Chuck had wanted to eat there.
Let me give you a little backstory for this show. When we did our last family trip that included Universal (1996) my dad had ordered a Universal Studios vacation planning VHS for us to watch and my sister became obsessed with the Beetlejuice part of the tape. My dad even got a 30 second clip of the show on the computer that she would watch over and over again. She just couldn’t wait to see the show and when she finally did…she was terrified of it especially Beetlejuice. We have a home movie my dad took of it and you can see the horror in her face when Beetlejuice walks past her. LOL Thankfully she is older now and wasn’t afraid. ;)
The show was good and Beetlejuice was funny. He definitely tells jokes that are for adults which are always funny to see all the kids at the show laugh at.
After the show we decided we were hungry so we checked out the map and realized that Richter’s Burger Co. was close by. I hadn’t looked into anything in regards to dining for Universal before the trip since I had wanted to eat at the Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade but since we were nowhere near there we went with something close by. We all ended up ordering burgers and they were just ok. Nothing special but helped with our hunger. I would try somewhere else next time though since none of us were crazy about the place. After lunch Bobby, my parents and Chuck jumped on Jaws. Teenie and I didn’t really feel like riding so we just waited for them at the exit and talked about the trip so far. We couldn’t believe it was Monday already and that we were going home on Thursday. After they finished up with Jaws we went on Men In Black, The Simpsons, The Mummy, and Twister. My thoughts on those were that I didn’t really like Men In Black, I LOVED The Simpsons, Twister was fun, and The Mummy was a disappointment for me. I’ve always heard how much people like that ride so I guess I built it up too much in my mind. We never got back on it so maybe I would like it a second time. After The Simpsons we found the Starbucks so my mom and Teenie ran in to get some coffee for some of us. My mom, sister and I are nuts about Starbucks at home. We even have gold cards from how many times we go there so we were thrilled to find one in Universal since there aren’t any on Disney property. While they were inside we grabbed a couple of photos.
I also saw these guys and jumped in for a picture before they drove away.

Day 5 - Part 2
Once we were all armed with our coffee we headed toward the ET ride but not before snapping a quick photo on my phone of Teenie showing her love of Starbucks.
We jumped on ET which we all enjoyed. We had really liked this ride when we were last here in 1996 and had wanted to take Chuck on it since he had never been on. It isn’t the newest ride but if you are fans of the movie it is still fun. When we got off we saw Scooby Doo and Shaggy taking some pictures but the line was really long so we just took a quick pic of the Mystery Van and then went on our way.
It was getting close to closing and Bobby, Chuck and I wanted to jump on the Forbidden Journey one last time so we decided on one last ride in this park and then we would head back. Bobby and I had wanted to try Shrek but it had a 20 minute wait and we had also wanted to try the Rip Ride Rockit coaster so we went with that. My parents didn’t want to go on so they found a nice spot to sit and relax while we jumped on. I was terrified of this since I am really afraid of heights but I loved it once we finished the climb up the first hill. It was a lot of fun and I loved being able to pick my own music for it. We didn’t realize they videotaped everyone on the ride either so that was a fun surprise at the end. We quickly grabbed my parents to watch our videos and we were all cracking up. I had wanted to buy them but they were $30 each and we would need two since one was of Bobby and Teenie and the other was of Chuck and I. That was way too much money for me since the videos were only a minute or two each. Maybe next time but then again we will all know we are on camera then so it won’t be the same. We said goodbye to Universal (but not before doing some shopping) and headed back to Islands on Adventure. My parents didn’t want to ride the Harry Potter ride again so we split up from them. They ended up going to the Lost Continent area and going on the Poseidon ride which they said was awful! LOL After that they walked around the Dr. Seuss land.
We jumped on the Forbidden Journey one last time and then did some shopping in the ride store. I can’t remember everything Bobby bought except for a picture frame. Chuck got two shirts, and I got a shirt and two coffee mugs. I have a strange obsession with buying coffee mugs. After paying for everything and having it shipped home (we always do that unless we buy something like shirts that can’t break in our luggage) we headed to the front of the park to meet my parents. Teenie and I stopped in the Dr. Seuss land along the way.
Doing her pose of the week.
We met up at the entrance to the park and decided to head out since our bus pickup would be there soon.
Teenie's traditional luggage picture
On our way out Chuck stopped and got me a Cinnabon to surprise me since I had seen it when we had come in that morning. I love Cinnabon but for some reason all the ones that used to be in the malls by us closed so it had been a while since I had one. We waited about 10 minutes for our van to pick us up and realized we were the only ones getting a pick up at that time. I believe you could get picked up until 11 or 12 at night so we could have stuck around to check out City Walk but everyone was tired and wanted to head back. We asked the driver to drop us off at one of the hotels near Downtown Disney and he did. We walked over and headed to the spot we had decided on for dinner that Chuck, my mom and I had been looking forward to all week….Earl of Sandwich! Bobby, Teenie and my dad had never eaten here before and we were excited for them to try it. My mom and I jumped in line while everyone else went to grab a table outside since it was beautiful out. I can’t remember what everyone got except that Bobby, my mom and I got the ham and swiss (so yummy). Everyone loved their meal and agreed that this place is a must do every trip. After dinner we decided to separate again. My dad, Chuck and Teenie were tired and headed back to Caribbean Beach while Bobby, my mom and I stayed at Downtown Disney to walk around and do some shopping. Our ultimate goal was to walk to D-Street aka the Vinylmation Store since they three of us collect them. We stopped at different stores along the way and checked out Raglan Road (which we had an ADR (Advance Dining Reservations) at for our first night but cancelled). It looked like a lot of fun and I plan on getting an ADR (Advance Dining Reservations) there for our next trip so we can try it. We also past the old Adventure’s Club. None of us had ever been there before it closed but I know my brother and I would have really liked it. I wonder why Disney hasn’t gotten rid of the building yet. Maybe they will bring it back one day. We finally reached D-Street and got our shopping on. The store was great and we definitely had lighter wallets when we left. It was late so we decided to just grab a cab and head back since the lines to the busses were nuts. When we got back Chuck and my dad were already asleep and Teenie was doing her hair. I crawled into bed and passed out since it had been a long but very fun day.
Next up….Breakfast with Donald and dinner in Canada
