I’m going to do a couple of days together……………………I didn’t make any notes on this trip (I never do) so I’m writing from memory and looking at the pictures to piece together what we did. We still had a few Disney Vacation Club fast passes to use up so decided to hit the Animal Kingdom as soon as we woke up. We couldn’t believe the weather – the forecast for the day was 85 degrees……….and this was December 21st! It was shorts and flip flops again – I started to think that a trip to the mall might be needed to buy more summer clothes if the weather continued to be so hot – during our last Christmas trip we had to do this to buy warm jumpers and more socks!!
The bus for the Animal Kingdom arrived almost immediately and after a stop at the water park (!) we were on our way. I really like the Animal Kingdom theme park at Walt Disney World Orlando but find it so hot when we normally visit in August so 85 degrees was relatively pleasant although it still felt really hot and it was only 10.30am when we arrived. The park was jam packed so we made our way straight to Expedition Everest and managed to get the back row! I love this ride and as soon as we finished we used our second fast pass and rode again. Robert had his hands in the air for the whole ride but even though I tried to keep hold at one point I still managed to get flung around the carriage – for such a short ride, it’s certainly a bumpy experience! As we were in the vicinity we headed around to Dinosaur and the queue was enormous but we were soon hunting for the dino and it doesn’t matter how many times I ride this attraction, the dinosaur at the end always scares me half to death.
We then realised that we hadn’t eaten so headed into Donald’s restaurantasauraus to fill up on burgers – these always hit the spot and then a quick spurt across the park and we were hurtling around the plains of Kilimanjaro. I love the safari and the animals were out in force today.
By this point we were actually flagging as it was so hot so decided that we’d head back to the Boardwalk and chill for a couple of hours around the pool. We had a reservation at the House of Blues in Downtown Disney which is somewhere we’d never eaten before and were looking forward to. We arrived in plenty of time and had a quick wander around the Westside which was looking very Christmassy. We were soon seated and our server was very pleasant but unfortunately I can’t remember what we had to eat although I do recall saying that it was good and that we’d have to return. I don’t think it was anything outstanding – just normal, run of the mill burgers etc.
We’d already decided that tomorrow would be a ‘chill out’ day around the pool so we were in no hurry to get to bed early so when we arrived back at the BoardWalk Villas Resort at Walt Disney World Orlando we went for a wander onto the Boardwalk. A magician had a huge crowd assembled so we spent some time watching him before returning to our room for some of the usual duty free!
We had a lie in until about 11am and then made our way down to the Boardwalk pool. The weather was glorious, sun, sun and more sun – Bryan was in his element and was soon slapping on the sun lotion. Robert found a sunlounger in the shade (he’d brought his DS and a book so was set up for the day) and I had a wander to the cart on the Boardwalk and bought three hotdogs for breakfast! It was so hot sitting in the sun that I was debating jumping into the pool but then Robert and I decided that we’d have a walk to the Boardwalk resorts to view the Christmas decorations. We never managed to do this on our last trip so off we went.
Our first stop was at the Yacht Club – we’ve never stayed here but it’s a hotel that I’d really like to try. We’ve been to the Yachtsman Steakhouse and I liked the look at the hotel – as soon as we walked in to the lobby a very friendly CM wished us Merry Christmas! We spotted the decorative village which was all made from chocolate so we had a good look around.
We then decided to head to the Beach Club – there was quite a crowd already viewing the chocolate carousels which are made by the Disney chefs and also the Snow White house.
By the time we arrived back at the BoardWalk Villas Resort at Walt Disney World Orlando it was time to return to the room as we had a ‘special’ evening to prepare for!
During our summer trip we’d had a fabulous evening on the Grand 1 courtesy of Paula and Alec (to celebrate Paula’s birthday) and we’d all enjoyed it so much that we’d arranged to meet again………Grand 1 etc and had our fingers crossed that the weather would be kind to us.
We’d originally booked an ADR (Advance Dining Reservations) for the Wave but cancelled as we didn’t think we’d have enough time to get to the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa at Walt Disney World pier in time for the cruise. As we walking through the BW we spotted Mickey and Minnie in the lobby so had our pictures taken and then stopped outside the bakery for a quick snack before grabbing a taxi over to the GF.
I still love walking into the GF…………….just looking at the hotel entrance and hearing the string quartet playing gives me goose bumps! We were just walking into the lift when we bumped into Paula, Alec, and the girls – good timing! We’d arranged to meet Bec and family in the lounge on the 2nd floor however when we arrived it was full but just as we were turning around, Bec arrived! As it was so warm we decided to adjourn to Gasparillas for a few ‘lemonades’ and wait for the G1! I had a good natter with Logan (who is adorable) about what Father Christmas would be bringing him and by this time we’d all caught up with each others news, it was time to board. I’ve got a couple of pics of the food – we had a fruit and cheese platter and some chocolate strawberries, washed down with a few drinks and some bubbly!
The G1 is fabulous and has a perfect location for watching Wishes, after the cruise we all returned to Gasparillas and chilled with more ‘lemonades’ while Robert and the girls hit the arcade. It was an excellent night, lots of good food and plenty of ‘lemonade’, good company and loads of laughs, and the Grand 1 was of course awesome. Hopefully we’ll have many more nights like this to look forward to.
After staggering to our taxi we finally found the way back to our room and got to bed around 2.30am!!

Sounds like a great place to spend the Christmas Holidays (85 degrees in Dec. works for me) I got to see some of the Holiday decorations when we spent Thanksgiving in WDW, but it would be great to see everything decked out.Disney Dad

What an awesome day. I read this to Gabriella and she got a little said looking when I read all the kids went to the arcade. She wishes she could've been there too.
