Orbitron

A flying saucer spin amidst a galaxy of rotating planets lets Hong Kong Disneyland Resort guests soar to the stars in Orbitron. Modeled after similar and popular attractions at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Resort in California (named "Astro Orbiter" at both U.S. resorts), Disneyland Paris (named "Orbitron-Machines Volantes") and Tokyo Disney Resort (named "StarJets"), Orbitron allows guests young and old to "pilot" their own spacecraft on a revolving mission around a twirling orbit of vibrantly colored planets and interstellar orbs.

The highly stylized spaceships of Orbitron are part of the futuristic spaceport that is Tomorrowland. Soaring above the land, the ships circle around an ever-rotating universe of planets and constellations.

The Orbitron fleet includes 16 four-passenger flying saucers that orbit an animated model universe. This universe is based upon the animated planetary and navigational models that were used to demonstrate the movement of planets in our solar system from the 15th through the 19th centuries.

Front-row passengers in each flying saucer can make their ships rise and lower by manipulating a control lever. Both front and back row passengers have the opportunity to initiate sound effects by pressing buttons.

The attraction's fanciful design recalls timeless and romantic predictions of space travel as first envisioned by such renowned futurists as Leonardo daVinci, Jules Verne and H.G. Wells.

The flying saucers are painted in bright reds, yellows and purples with metallic accents and feature a silver horizontal fin or band that encircles each space vehicle. They fly around a system of brightly colored planets, moons and rings of varying sizes. The most prominent "planet" is a blue, "Earth"-like orb circled by two rings that have a series of sun icons on them.

As the flight begins, the entire rocket assembly rises approximately 2.7 meters (nine feet) and begins to revolve clockwise. At this point, riders in the front portion of the flying saucers are able to control their altitude by pulling or pushing a lever inside the ship which allows them to reach a maximum height of eight meters (26 feet) above ground level. All passengers have control over special audio effects that add to the cosmic fun.
