 First introduced to audiences in Walt Disney Pictures’ 2002 hit comedy "Lilo & Stitch," the fuzzy, blue and lovable alien known officially as "Experiment 626" takes center stage in Stitch Encounter, a Tomorrowland attraction at Hong Kong Disneyland. It allows guests to step into Stitch's animated – and quite mischievous – world.
Utilizing the latest real-time computer graphics animation technology created by Walt Disney Imagineering, the creative geniuses behind all Disney parks and resorts, Stitch Encounter opens new doors of possibilities for Hong Kong Disneyland guests – allowing them to talk, listen, joke and play with the animated alien in a way that only Disney can create. It's the latest milestone in Walt Disney Imagineering's legacy of bringing beloved characters to life in cutting-edge and fun-filled ways for theme park guests.
With separate experiences offered in Cantonese, English and Putonghua, Stitch Encounter is located next to Space Mountain – where guests are seated in an intimate theatre and led past beaming satellite dishes into Space Traffic Control, a central hub and viewpoint for all galactic travel. As guests enter the theatre, a Space Traffic Controller scans a galactic communications screen for "active" alien traffic. A joy-riding space cruiser, piloted by the mischievous Stitch, is quickly summoned to converse with the visitors.
"Borrowing" the sleek craft from his arch-nemesis, Captain Gantu, Stitch is zipping through the universe in search of new friends and adventures. Seeing the chance encounter as an opportunity to find new family – or "ohana" as it is called in his adopted home of Hawaii – Stitch talks, jokes and even flirts with guests.
Sometimes forgetting the manners that his best pal Lilo has tried to instill, Stitch might belch, pick his nose or scratch his backside. But it's all in good fun as he engages the audience and immerses guests in his uncommon universe.
Stitch Encounter gives Hong Kong Disneyland guests the chance to engage in real-time, spontaneous conversation with the animated, fluffy alien. Stitch chats, plays and jokes with guests in an immersive and personalized way.
The show is never the same twice – whether Stitch plays his guitar, dances around the bridge of Gantu's spaceship, takes digital photographs of audience members or encourages guests to roar like lions and screech like monkeys.
Children are invited to sit directly in front of the Space Traffic Control communications screen while adults enjoy the fun from the seats behind them. But no matter where guests are seated, Stitch can see and engage them in conversation. Whether commenting on a guest's clothing or asking the group to help control Gantu's space cruiser with voice commands, the talkative, tiny alien is a bundle of non-stop banter.
Because of the interactivity and immersion of the experience, Stitch Encounter is a show where the guests are just as much the "stars" of the production as Stitch himself.
