BIG THUNDER MOUNTAIN RAILROAD

Hang on to your hats, cowboys (and cowgirls), aboard this runaway train through the Old West on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Walt Disney World Resort.
The landmark attraction in the heart of Frontierland transports Magic Kingdom guests on a harrowing journey through an abandoned gold mine, with red stone slopes, mysterious caverns, spiraling buttes and fun-filled adventures along the way.
Set during the gold rush era in the flooded mining town of tumbleweed, guests enter the ram-shackled headquarters of the Big Thunder Mining Co. and board converted ore cars through a deserted mine shaft. As the train winds around the majestic mountain, passengers experience an adventure during which they brave rushing waterfalls, rumbling earthquakes, crashing landslides and hairpin turns!

Big Thunder Mountain debuted in the Magic Kingdom in 1980.
There are 20 audio-animatronics throughout the attraction as well as loads of authentic mining equipment to enhance the theming. The colour and shape of the rocks that form the mountain are meant to mimic those found in Arizona's monument valley.
The mining trains you travel in average speeds of around 30mph but can reach around 33mph when the temperature rises and the grease on the rails heats. There are 6 trains in all, U.B. Bold, U.R. Daring, U.R. Courageous, I.M. Brave, I.B. Hearty and I.M. Fearless.
Big Thunder Mountain stands 197 feet tall.
