Ratatouille

In Ratatouille, a rat named Remy dreams of becoming a great chef despite his family's wishes and the obvious problem of being a rat in a decidedly rodent-phobic profession. When fate places Remy in the city of Paris, he finds himself ideally situated beneath a restaurant made famous by his culinary hero, Auguste Gusteau. Despite the apparent dangers of being an unwanted visitor in the kitchen at one of Paris' most exclusive restaurants, Remy forms an unlikely partnership with Linguini, the garbage boy, who inadvertently discovers Remy's amazing talents. They strike a deal, ultimately setting into motion a hilarious and exciting chain of extraordinary events that turns the culinary world of Paris upside down.

Remy finds himself torn between following his dreams or returning forever to his previous existence as a rat. He learns the truth about friendship, family and having no choice but to be who he really is, a rat who wants to be a chef.

110 minutes long.

Fun Facts

The film's marketing materials say that the film's title is pronounced "rat-a-too-ee". This is purposely non-standard pronunciation syntax (versus "ra-ta-too-ee").
To learn the art of cooking, the animation team worked with chef Thomas Keller at his restaurant "French Laundry." Thomas Keller has a cameo role in the movie, voicing one of the patrons at Gusteau's.
In order to animate the chef when he's wet, the animators got someone to dress up in a chef;'s suit and get into a swimming pool then they could observe how the suit stuck to him.
The trailer for Ratatouille debuted with the release of its immediate predecessor, Cars. It depicts an original scene where Rémy is caught on the cheese cart in the restaurant's dining area sampling the cheese and barely escaping the establishment, intercut with separate scenes of the rat explaining why he is taking such risks. Similar to most of Pixar's teaser trailers, the scene was not present in the final film release.

Quotes

Horst: I robbed the second largest bank in France using only a ball-point pen.

Skinner: Are you cooking? How dare you cook in my kitchen? Where do you get the gall to attempt something so monumentally idiotic? I shall have you drawn and quartered! I can do that! I believe the law is on my side!

Remy: He's ruining the soup! And no one's noticing? It's your restaurant, do something!
Gusteau: What can I do? I am a figment of your imagination.

Colette: I hate to be rude, but, we're French!
