Acapulco Sightseeing Excursions

Acapulco Highlights, Shopping & Cliff Divers

Soak up the sights of Acapulco during a guided tour of the city where you're invited to shop amidst the Zócalo and thrill to the La Quebrada cliff divers.

Surrender to a stunning vista of scenic seaside views and the Sierra Madre mountains that surround the bay as you embark on a delightful 10-minute stroll to the Fort of San Diego, nestled in the heart of Acapulco. Arguably the single most historical monument in Acapulco, the 17th-century Fort of San Diego was originally constructed as a defense against piracy and, today, acts as the city's historical museum. Stand in the shadow of this majestic, five-pointed star-shaped structure and unearth the past during a tour of the exhibition rooms inside. Then, make your way back to the pier and board an air-conditioned motor coach to the cliff of La Quebrada where the world-famous divers take their death-defying plunge. Since 1934, the cliff divers of La Quebrada have risked their lives hurling themselves from rocky perches 150 feet high into the shallow waters of the Pacific Ocean, timing their jumps to coincide with the incoming waves. Gaze in amazement as you behold the diver's daring jumps, and catch up on some shopping in one of the most well-known handcraft and jewelry stores in the city.

After your visit to La Quebrada, travel for 15 minutes to one of the first and most famous hotels in Acapulco: the Hotel Los Flamingos. Perched 500 feet high on a cliff above Acapulco Bay, the Hotel Los Flamingos offers unparalleled views of the sea and neighboring La Roqueta Island and was once owned by Hollywood's elite, including John Wayne and Errol Flynn. During your 20-minute visit, tour the one-time home of Johnny "Tarzan" Weissmuller and savor the flavor of a refreshing beverage as you lose yourself to the scenery and history of this magical place.

From the hotel, journey to the oldest and most popular part of the city, the traditional main square of Acapulco known as Zócalo. Snap a picture of the scenic plaza brimming with trees, and take in the vast array of locals and vendors who call this oasis amidst paradise home. Spend some time at one of the oldest established stores in the city, La Botica. Explore the ancient cathedral, Nuestra Señora de la Soledad, built in 1930, and stroll through the age-old El Edificio Oviedo, also known as the Forgotten Office, where you're invited to peruse an extensive range of jewelry and handcrafts. Finally, shop for the perfect souvenir at the Plaza del Navegante market, located on the beachfront, which is awash with vendors selling treasures both big and small. After your hour-long visit, bask in the cool ocean breezes as you embark on your 10-minute return trip back to the ship.

Ancient Petroglyphs of Palma Sola

Step back in time during a visit to El Veladero National Park and visit a traditional outdoor market where you are invited to shop for souvenirs.

Immerse yourself in the more "authentic" side of Acapulco as you leave the well known tourist zone and make your way past a striking landscape of sloping hills and desert-like terrain during a 30-minute, air-conditioned drive to Palma Sola, nestled deep in El Veladaro National Park. Once there, journey up the face of the mountain — at a height of 1,000 feet — and behold the age-old stone markings of the early Mexican people. Believed to be the work of the first settlers in the area, the Yopes, the fascinating carvings of both people and animals were created as early as 600 A.D. Experience a sense of awe and wonder as you behold the markings, and lose yourself to the spectacular views of Acapulco Bay from your secluded mountaintop perch.

Following your two-hour visit, embark on a 15-minute trip to a local handcraft market, and delight in the authentic Mexican goods that surround you at every turn. Shop for that perfect souvenir — including flowers, baskets, clay pottery and jewelry — amidst a treasure trove of shops and soak up the local flavor of the city. After your 15-minute visit, journey to a seaside restaurant and lose yourself to the spectacular coastal views as you enjoy a delightful Mexican snack and a refreshing beverage.
