 Ajaccio, Corsica
|
Ajaccio is the capital of Corsica, and is located on the west coast of the island, separated from the neighboring island of Sardinia by only 7 miles. It is famous for being the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte. The city is kissed by ocean breezes, lapped by the waters of the Mediterranean sea and caressed by the crystal cascades of the Gravona River that runs through it.
These days, the city is most famous for its vineyards. The warm weather of the region produces ideal conditions for the cultivation of the Sciacarello grape - a local variety yielding an exceptional red wine that is light in color and peppery, with a highly tannic finish.
Visitors can enjoy a stroll along golden-sand beaches or take a jaunt through shaded markets.
