Helsinki Tips

Finnish and Swedish are the official languages spoken.

The currency is the Euro, and you'll need to exchange your currency for Euros if you wish to shop or dine in the city (unless using credit cards). A foreign exchange kiosks can be found in the city center.

Service charges are included in restaurant and taxi prices, but if the service has been especially good you may want to tip a little extra.

Tickets can be purchased from ticket machines or Tourist information, pics, that provide unlimited use of public transport for the day.

The city is easily accessible on foot.

Helsinki is reputed to be the second safest city in the world, but tourists are still advised to take common sense safety precautions - don't carry large amounts of cash, or important documents (passport, etc), and be aware that pickpockets may be operating.

Avoid Kaisaniemi park behind the main Railway Station, as well as the area of Kallio and Sörnäinen (northeast from the center, after the Pitkäsilta bridge) at night.
