Places to visit in Juneau


Mount Roberts Tramway

Located next to the cruise ship dock in downtown Juneau, this tramway takes guests up Mount Roberts. The observation deck is 2,000 ft above the city and offers breathtaking views. Once there, guests can take one of the hiking trails, and even branch off to hike up to the summit. They can also visit the Mount Roberts Nature Center, which features a captive eagle, browse the shop or dine in the restaurant.

Mendenhall Glacier

The Glacier is an enormous ice-field that flows down a valley incline to the edge of a lake. At half a mile wide and up to 1,800 feet deep it really is something that visitors to Juneau should try to see. It can be viewed from the onsite visitor center, or the more adventurous can take a moderate hike through th eforest along the East Glacier Trail.
It's located just 13 miles from the city center, and can be accessed via bus or taxi.

Alaska State Museum

A historic museum that covers the history of the State, along with a collection of artifacts and exhibits that detail the native people, wildlife, cultures and industry.
Just a 10 minute walk from the cruise dock.

Take a tour of the Alaskan Brewing Company headquarters which includes free beer tasting.

The best way to see Juneau is from the air, and a number of companies run helicopter and floatplane tours.

Red Dog Saloon

A bar with authentic swinging saloon doors and saw dust floors that's been recognized by the Alaska Legislature for its longevity as the oldest man-made tourist attraction in Juneau. It was built during the mining era and visitors can see Wyatt Earp's gun that he checked but failed to claim on his way to Nome.

Macaulay Salmon Hatchery

From mid-June to October visitors can watch salmon swim up a 450-foot fish ladder, where they are sorted and have their eggs removed. You may also be lucky enough to see seals who arrive to feed on the returning salmon.


Glacier Gardens Rainforest

50 acres of Southeast Alaska's lush rainforest, offering landscaping, floral design, waterfalls, and scenic vistas. Located eight miles north of Juneau.

Hiking

There are over 90 hiking trails in the area which can be tackled alone or with a guide.
