La Spezia Tips

The currency is the Euro, and you'll need to exchange your currency for Euros if you wish to shop or dine in the city (unless using credit cards). Although credit cards are widely accepted, payments under 10 Euros are normally made with cash.

Guests who want to leave the ship will need to take tender boats to the promenade. The main shopping district of La Spezia is around a 10 minute walk from there.

Metered taxis are available near to the pier, and have standard rates listed inside the cab.

La Spezia itself is best explored on foot. For guests wishing to travel further afield, buses and trains are available. Bus line "L" runs from the railway station to Lerici in 35 minutes with a bus departing every 15 minutes. Line "P" and "11" run from Piazza Chiodo to Portovenere in 1 hour with a bus departing every 30 minutes. Bus tickets are purchased at newsstands and must be stamped upon boarding. The railway station is a 15 minute walk from the pier.

It is recommended to give taxi drivers a tip of 20-30 Euro Cents.

Service charges are not added to the bill in restaurants, and it's customary to tip 4-5% for good service.

Common sense is advised when it comes to safety - don't carry large amounts of cash, or important documents (passport, etc), and be aware that pickpockets may be operating.
