Mazatlán Sightseeing Excursions

Sierra Madre Tour

Step back in time during a tour of Malpica, Concordia and Copala — and discover an age-old culture and tradition that still exist today.

Behold a striking landscape of hillside climbs and secluded estuaries as you wind your way across the captivating Mexican countryside during an approximate 35-minute, air-conditioned motor coach ride to a local brick factory. Take in a fascinating demonstration of how adobe bricks — made of clay and straw — are produced and discover the impact of adobe pueblos on the people of Mexico. Following your visit, travel for 20 minutes to the quaint village-town of Malpica and soak up the culture of Mazatlán at a local tile factory. Discover the fine art of tile-making as you watch tiles being created by hand on an age-old press just as they have been for over 100 years. Then, savor the flavor of a traditional cookie at a local bakery before boarding your air-conditioned motor coach and journeying to the town of Concordia.

After your approximate 30-minute drive, arrive in the timeless town of Concordia. Founded in 1565, Concordia is located in the southern part of the state of Sinaloa. Stroll this old, rustic town and make your way to the 18th-century Colonial Church of San Sebastian. Stand in the shadow of this magnificent stone-carved structure and venture inside to explore its many baroque furnishings. Visit the City Hall, constructed in the early part of the last century, and snap a picture of the Antique Hospice, which is now home to the Municipal Palace. After your 40-minute stop, embark on a 35-minute trip to the 16th-century mining town of Copala. Brimming with cobblestone streets and red rooftops, Copala offers a glimpse into Mexico's colonial past unlike anyplace else. Step back in time as you wander the old alleyways and picturesque lanes, and explore the village square and majestic San Jose Church. Enjoy a traditional Mexican lunch and embark on a 45-minute journey to a furniture factory and pottery farm and uncover both of these age-old artisan traditions. During your visit, learn about the cultural significance of pottery-making as you watch a fascinating hands-on demonstration where children are invited to create and keep their very own clay mementos.
