 Disneyland Monorail
|
Pioneered as a transport system of the future, but now very much an icon of the Disney parks worldwide, the Disneyland monorail takes guests on a circular tour around the Disneyland district.
Its current path travels around both Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure, past Disney's Grand Californian Resort & Spa and through the Downtown Disney area.
There are two stops along the way, one of which is in Tomorrowland, near to the Submarine Lagoon. The other is located in Downtown Disney, notable by its forest theme due to its close proximity to the Rainforest Café.
A ride on the Disneyland Monorail offers some wonderful elevated views of many of the park's major attractions and themed lands.
Leaving Tomorrowland Station, the monorail crosses the Disneyland Railroad and goes along Harbor Blvd. Entering Disney's California Adventure, it passes by Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! and the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, then crosses the "Golden Gate Bridge" at the Park's entrance. From there it travels through Disney's Grand Californian Hotel and into the Downtown Disney station. Once passengers are loaded it takes a run around Downtown Disney and travels back to Disneyland. Crossing the Disneyland Railroad once more it goes around Tomorrowland, above the Submarine Lagoon and autopia, past the Matterhorn Bobsleds and into the Tomorrowland Station.
At present, the monorail operates Mark V vehicles, each with a unique colour coding (Blue, Red, Purple) however each of these will be upgraded to the new Mark VII monorails, scheduled to complete in 2009.
