Bongo's Ropa Vieja Recipes from Bongo's Cuban Cafe


2 Tbsp olive oil
1 onion, julienned
1 green pepper, julienned
1 red pepper, julienned
1½ lb sliced flank steak
1 ripe tomato
1 bay leaf
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp garlic powder
1 Tbsp dried oregano
White rice, for serving
Black beans, for serving
Fried plantains, for serving


In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.

Add onion and peppers and saute until translucent.

Add steak, tomato, bay leaf, cumin, garlic, and oregano.

Stir to combine and cook for 25 minutes.

Serve with white rice, black beans, and sweet fried plantains.
