Ajaccio Tips

The currency is the Euro, and you'll need to exchange your currency for Euros if you wish to shop or dine in the city (unless using credit cards). Local bank opening times are normally 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. A foreign exchange kiosk can be found inside the port's terminal building.

Downtown Ajaccio is just a 1/4 mile walk from the pier and terminal building. If you wish to take a taxi they are readily available around the port terminal, and also within the city. However, most drivers only speak French, so a translation tool or book may be essential. Additionally, there are 2 train companies operating out of the Ajaccio train station with stops all around the island.

It is recommended to give taxi drivers a 10% tip.

Gratuity is usually included on your bill in restaurants, although you can still leave a few coins on your table if service has been good.

Common sense is advised when it comes to safety - don't carry large amounts of cash, or important documents (passport, etc), keep bags secured and worn with a shoulder strap across your body, and be aware that pickpockets may be operating.

Basic French words and phrases can be found in our Disneyland Paris section.
