Disney Cinema Parade

** Ending March 31, 2008. To be replaced by Disney's Stars and Motor Cars Parade (from Walt Disney World, Florida) **

The parade is themed as a giant film production, and leading the parade are the principal elements of a cinema shoot - the camera and the actors. These are followed by the script (the Lion King float), the clapboard (Pinocchio float), the camera case and film reel (101 Dalmatians and Mary Poppins floats), the cast and actual shoot (Toy Story float) and finally the projection (the Cinema Theatre float).

Each of the parade floats is accompanied by Cinema Grooms, who help to set up the different scenes and invite guests along the parade route to join in the fun. Their costumes take their inspiration from the film world, and each Groom uses a variety of props, ranging from clapboards to projectors. The Cinema Grooms are toys that have been brought to life to help illustrate the story that each float tells…

The first float to enter on stage as part of Disney Cinema Parade is a giant film camera with Tinker Bell perched on top and, if guests look carefully inside the camera case, they can see Peter Pan flying high.  This essential piece of filmmaking equipment, the first of many to arrive on the giant movie set brought to life by Disney Cinema Parade, invites guests into the magical world of cinema.  The float is accompanied by some Cinema Grooms, who help to set the scene, work the camera and start the "shoot".

The lens is then focused on the next float, which represents an open dressing room featuring one of Disney's most celebrated stars.  None other than Minnie Mouse is readying herself for a big day's shoot in front of a huge revolving mirror, which can be tilted towards her or in the direction of guests.  Camera in hand, Goofy helps film the action.

Giraffe and Zebra Grooms set the scene as the next float arrives - a giant script.  The sounds of the jungle and the roaring of a lion accompany the arrival of the float.  The script, a four metre high book of The Lion King, opens wide to reveal a part of the animated feature's classic storyline: Rafiki holding Simba aloft, while an older, wiser Simba is seen in the background reclaiming his place on Pride Rock.

Next comes the Pinocchio float, accompanied by Puppet and Clock Grooms. The float pays tribute to film industry craftsmen and prop makers, and features an over sized "boy marionette", a giant clapboard and a workshop, inside of which guests can see Gepetto hard at work, repairing some clocks.  He represents the passion for excellence that transforms the craftsmen of the movie world into true magicians.

Dog Grooms on roller blades lead the next float, which is themed on Disney's 101 Dalmatians.  As it travels through the theme park, the film reel of 101 Dalmatians unwinds as it is over-run by the playful pups.  Cruella DeVil and her sinister sidekicks desperately attempt to round up the escaping Dalmatians, but the pups are too fast (and too fun) to be caught.

Following closely behind the 101 Dalmatians, the next float sees Mary Poppins and Bert the chimney sweep spring out of a giant reel of film in a burst of song, accompanied by Horse Grooms.  The scene sees Mary Poppins and Bert try to catch some runaway merry-go-round horses in order to start the day's filming.  With the actors in place, guests are invited to rediscover this beloved Disney classic as it comes to life before their very eyes.

Next comes the director of this parade production - Donald Duck!  Comfortably seated in his film-director's chair several metres above the ground, Donald is busy directing the scene that follows, using a giant megaphone to give instructions to the film's cast.

And what a cast - it's all the characters from Toy Story and Toy Story II!  Naturally, Woody is at the front of the group, closely followed by Buzz Lightyear.  Mr. Potato Head, Rex the Dinosaur and the Toy Soldiers are also on hand, all of them ready to have fun, play practical jokes and fool around to the delight of Walt Disney Studios Park guests.

Following the penultimate float, a Groom Orchestra distribute cinema-style tickets to guests. They are followed by a Sandwich-board Groom, who invites guests to discover the final "scene", a float designed as a 1940's Broadway style cinema.  The cinema theatre audience is made up of children from the audience, who are entertained by the wacky Groom Clowns.
