Villefranche Tips

The official language of Villefranche is French. Here are some useful French phrases.

The currency is the Euro. Major credit cards are accepted in most places, although payments of under 10 Euros are usually made with cash.

Service charges are not included in restaurants, and it's customary to tip 4-5% of your bill for good service.

Tips of 20 to 30 Euro cents for a taxi ride under 20 Euros are expected.

The ship anchors outside of the port, and small tender boats take guests from the ship to the shore.

Each French Riviera town has its own bus system. There is also the TAM (Transport Alpes-Maritimes), which connects all the Eastern Riviera towns between Cannes and Menton, and all the main villages like Èze and Vence. A mini-bus shuttles Guests from the port terminal to the main bus station for one Euro. Guests can catch a bus from the main bus station in Villefranche to Monaco or Cannes for a small amount. Maps and schedules can be found at the tourist board office.

The local TER stopping trains serve the main Riviera towns between Cannes and Ventimiglia. The main station is a 10-minute walk from the terminal along the waterfront. Trains run approximately every half-hour to Nice, Cannes and Monaco.

Taxis are notoriously expensive and can be difficult to find, as in some places they won't respond to being hailed in the street and only operate from taxi ranks. Only use licensed cabs, and try to negotiate the fare before boarding. If using a metered cab, keep your eye on the meter, making sure it's running the whole time.

Common sense is advised when it comes to safety - don't carry large amounts of cash, or important documents (passport, etc), keep bags secured and worn with a shoulder strap across your body. and be aware that pickpockets may be operating.
